About Us
Bonsai Beanie is a project that I started out of the need to create something by combining two passions: knitting and plants.
My name is Josh and I'm a crocheter, knitter, and excitable plant dad. I have been extremely privileged to live in Canada and find ways to keep myself busy with side projects. I have made hats, scarves, and afghans for many friends, family, coworkers, and fellow interns over the years and I thought, "hey, why not make a business out of this?"
In the photo above is the 1st thing I have ever made. It has stuck with me for for almost 10 years while I learned new tricks in the knitting and crochet community. I became acutely aware of different fibres, costs, and the process of making yarn. It is a world of its own and I am incredibly thankful to be a part of it.
Even while interning abroad during the Summer of 2016, I found yarn distributors that were so kind and patient with my misunderstanding of costs differences.
I've left my mark of creative passion everywhere I go. And I am truly amazed at how much people become so excited when they see hand-made products. It surpasses excitement, devotion, and loyalty to large brand name products.
I have even tested my hand at hand-made rugs from upcycled t-shirts. That was a very difficult and labor-intensive project. However, you might see some in the future!
Over the years my desire to make a business with wool/yarn has increased. Only now have I really challenged myself. Because of the pandemic I learned the necessity to hunker down and use the resources around me to pull through. Bonsai Beanie really is a testament to channeling energy into positive endeavours.
